The Iraqi side had also maintained an 11-17 lead by the end of the first half.

For their next encounter, Iran’s squad is slated to take up South Korea who has so far bagged two titles, six silver as well as two bronze medals in earlier editions of the event.

Iran has been seeded against South Korea, Iraq and Japan in the second stage while only two teams will receive tickets to the semifinal round.

Despite the bitter defeat against Iraq’s national team, Iranian handball players had previously pulled off sweeping victories over host Jordan and Uzbekistan in the earlier stage.

The 15th Asian Men’s Junior Championship, which also marks as a qualification round for IHF Men's Junior World Championship 2017 to be hosted by Algeria, opened on Friday July 22 in the Jordanian capital of Amman and will run through August 01.
